Rare 18th Century Menswear Silk Embroidered Fancy Vest, circa 1780-1790

Description: This is a rare find, it is an 18th century menswear vest in cream color silk, with fancy floral embroidered leaves and flowers in chartreuse green, dark brown and pink silk floss. Dating to about 1785, these garments (of more than 200 years of age) rarely survive intact today. This was discovered in a Vermont attic.
This lovely vest has beautiful handiwork and two decorative faux pocket flaps. The back is made of off-white muslin.
Condition: Offered as found. There are considerable signs of age and wear, notably there is foxing and light watermark stains throughout, and a few darker spots. There is deep darkening/soiling and resultant fabric deterioration on the upper back of the collar. The garment once closed with nine matching buttons made of wood with delicate hand floral embroidery, but only 3 remain: one in excellent shape, one hanging low, and one fabric button case that is missing its wooden form inside. The side seams have been repaired by hand on possibly more than one occassion by not the neatest hand, the stitches are clumsy compared to the tiny neat handiwork that created this originally.
Despite the condition issues, the fabric is solid, it is not shredding or shattering, and this is an amazing historical garment that is absolutely museum-worthy.
Size: A small size, the chest measures 36 inches, the waist 36, length is 24 inches from back of neck to lowest point of front side hem.
Given its rarity, age and delicate condition, I do not recommend that this waistoat be worn.
Price: $1,100.00

1950's Smoking Jacket, Silver Bamboo, Gold Dragons, size Medium/Large

Description: I'm pretty crazy about this late 50's, early 60's gentlemen's smoking jacket. It's so classy, yet so dramatic in a Hugh Hefner sort of way! It is black with silver metallic embroidered bamboo trees, the quilted black satin trim is on 2 front pockets, the chest pocket, the collar and sleeves, and the nice, wide collar is embroidered with two gold dragons. There is a black and white braided sash for the belt loops at the waist.
The inside is lined with a sheer white fabric that feels like silk. The exterior fabric is probably rayon with lurex. No labels. Wear it out to dinner or lounging around your own private cabana. We used it recently in a Morning Glorious Vintage fashion show - click on the image above to see our model Zach strutting his stuff in this cool jacket!
Condition: Excellent, clean vintage condition with no flaws.
Size: A man's size Medium to Large. The chest measures 42 inches with the jacket wrapped and tied in the front and side seams equi-distant from each other. The waist is about 40 inches or can be drawn smaller, the shoulders are 18 across, sleeves are 34.5 inches measured from the center of the back of the neck. The total length is 34 inches.
Price: $135.00
